The
Fairlift was the second of two ships bringing many, very large
pieces of equipment from Japan. The equipment was discharged in Duluth to
sixteen specially built 12-axle rail cars, only 28 of which are available
in North America. Sixteen of them were used for this shipment (twelve were
used for the first shipment). Trucks will carry the rest of the equipment
to Canada. The Stellanova brought the first shipment here in
October. |

The
Dutch-flagged vessel, part of the Jumbo
fleet of heavy equipment carrying vessels, arrived in Duluth on
December 7, 2000. Over a week later, on December 15th, they departed empty
for Halifax, where they will load 15 General Motors locomotives for
Algeria. |

Fifty-six pieces were
discharged from the Fairlift, using two of their heavy-duty onboard
cranes. Seven pieces weighed in excess of 500 tons. |
