The M/V Jumbo Vision arrived in Duluth on November 8, 2002 to discharge heavy-lift cargo.
Below, the ship's two on-board cranes are slowly lifting the reactor container vessel out of the hold. In the foreground, other pieces, not so big, are waiting their turn.
Once the cables are attached, the piece is slowly lifted out of the hold.
Above, a worker is cleaning off welds from a previous job. The piece below will soon be welded to the base of the rail car.
It just looks like the piece is about to be placed on the Lakehead Constructors truck. It is destined for the specially built railcar just behind the truck.
At left, Jumbo Vision Captain Anton G. W. van Koldam reviews official papers related to the ship's cargo and crew, just after he docked the ship at the Port Terminal on Friday evening, November 8. To his right is Leon Streur, here from the Jumbo home office in Holland to oversee the project.

Captain van Koldam (left) carries the control box for one of his two heavy lift cranes. The whole process of lifting one of these pieces out of the ship's holds and moving it over the side and down to a waiting rail car below takes about an hour. Below, he is checking out the last two inches of the lift with Dick Johnson, who heads up special projects for Lakehead Constructors.

Heavy lift and beautiful too. For more information.
