  1. Heavier loads are permitted when shipments move only on Southern Pacific lines (including Cotton Belt) and certain connecting carriers. For information, contact your nearest Southern Pacific Traffic representative.

  2. Indicates coupled length of car.

  3. Maximum load is 66,000 pounds when load is evenly distributed over 18 ft. at center of car. Load limit increases to 115,000 pounds when load is evenly distributed between bolsters. Stenciled load limit (or heavier, see footnote (1)) is allowable when load is distributed over full length of car.

  4. Eight cars are equipped for handling missile motor segments: SP 597000 to 597005 and 597008 and 597009.

  5. Maximum load is 114,000 pounds when load is evenly distributed over 8 ft. at center of car. Stenciled load limit (or heavier, see footnote (1)) is allowable when load is distributed over full length of car.

  6. Sixteen cars are equipped with steel decks to handle truck frames.

  7. Cars are equipped with tie-downs to handle shipments of heavy equipment or farm equipment.
