This photo was by William Deal. William's father worked at worked at Spencer Shops (NC) and was on the Spencer Derrick (903002).

"To the best of my recollection I was in kindergarten when Spencer got the "new" derrick (903002) which would have been in 1960-61. My dad was a carman and worked in the Car Shop at Spencer. (The Car Shop guys staffed the derrick when there was a derailment.) When Spencer Shops shut down in 1959, the Car Shop was the only thing that remained (other than the freight yard). 903002's boom car (910002) was built in the Spencer Car Shop by two carmen, one of which was my dad."
