RECORDS ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN

A turbine generator weighing 1,432,000 pounds was moved in October from Pennsylvania to Georgia by four railroads. The whopper unit and its special 22-axle jumbo flatcar - all 716 tons of them - became the heaviest load ever to move on U.S. railroads. Pen Central and Southern handled the big haul from Pittsburgh to Chattanooga, via Cincinnati. L&N took over at Chattanooga for the run to Cartersville with Seaboard Coast Line rolling the super load over the final leg. The 175 fool long, 13 foot wide generator is being installed in a Georgia Power Company plant under construction at Stilesboro, GA. Once again, railroads gave proof to the familiar motto, "We move anything anywhere at any time."
