High, wide and handsome
Southern Raiway recently moved another Westinghouse atomic reactor
from the Port of Charleston, S C, to Bonsal N. C.
The unit, 21.5 feet high and 20.5 feet
wide, weighed 400 tons. The route was 358 miles, the longest distance
Southern
has ever moved a unit of this size. To accommodate the reactor a
highway
drawbridge was installed, truss brdges were replaced and track
under overhead
structures was lowered. This is the second Westinghouse reactor
shipment that
Southern has handled. The first from Chareston to Charotte N C
was in eary
1974. That unit was slightly larger but the distance was less, only 258
miles.
