ON THE COVER

This new yard office and tower at the Southern's Oliver Yard in New Orleans is one of the most modern and attractive railroad yard buildings in the country. It is only proper that it should be, for the Southern recently spent $2 million in rebuilding and modernizing the yard's facilities to help give Southern shippers the "best" in Southern Railway service.

Formerly known as Press Street Yard, Oliver Yard was dedicated on October 30 and named in honor of Elmer R. Oliver, who last month completed his 28th year as the Southern's Vice-President in charge of Traffic.

Next month, Ties will carry an account of the dedication ceremonies and a story of how the yard is operated- giving you an opportunity to "meet" the folks who work in Oliver Yard.
