ON THE COVER
Ties looks at the heart of downtown Atlanta, Ga., and finds the Southern very much a part of the picture. In the foreground may be seen the tracks leading through Atlanta Terminal Station. Over these tracks pass some of the South's finest diesel - powered streamliners - The Crescent, The Southerner and the New Royal Palm.
The two buildings at lower right are Southern's office buildings in Atlanta. Tracks and sheds alongside the two building indicate that this is also the location of the Southern's Atlanta freight station.
