During a convention of the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic
Shrine at Jacksonville, Fla., in 1921, the AI Chymia Temple "advertised" its presence with colorful
decorations on a Southern Railway locomotive and tender. Picture sent in by J. S. Noble, cashier at
Jacksonville, shown at left on top of tender

Judging from the busy turntable, the six trains lined up in front of the
station and the decorative bunting on the station and some of the coaches, a celebration must have been
in progress the day this picture was made at Greensboro, N. C., in 1897. What the occasion was,
TIES doesn't know. Perhaps some reader can provide a clue.

This brand of horsepower has disappeared from the railroad scene,
but it was still giving valuable service when this photograph was taken sometime in the late 1890's.
TIES has no idea where the picture was taken and
hopes some reader may recognize the surroundings.
