Whether it is seen in the outskirts of Memphis, Tenn., as shown here, or making steady, rapid progress through the countryside, a Southern Railway freight train is an object of interest.
A child waving gaily to the crewmen may see it as an awesome giant-on-wheels going to or coming from strange, faraway places.
