Watching trains go by has long been a favorite American pastime for youngsters of all ages. And, for both young and old, waving to train crews remains a gesture of affection for railroads and railroaders.
But some rail fans develop more than a "hand-waving" interest in passing trains. One of these, Fonie Elliott of Milltown, Ind., is well known to train crews on Southern Railway's St. Louis Louisville division.
