"The day the eagle screams" (better known as payday) was obviously a festive occasion back in 1890
when this picture was taken on the Mobile division between Gurnee Junction and Bessemer, Ala. Southern
conductor C. C. Little, of Selma, Ala., sent the picture with the explanation that it was
made when the workmen gathered to receive their pay one day during the building of the line
linking Blocton, Bessemer and Birmingham.
