Most TIES readers would know the "Best Friend of Charleston" on sight but how many could recognize it in its rebuilt version, the "Phoenix"? The replica pictured here was a full-size model of the "Phoenix," one of 28 models of famous locomotives constructed in 1892 for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad exhibit at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. According to the B&O's public relations department, the model was destroyed by the collapse of the railway's exhibition buildings at Halethorpe, Md., following the Fair of the Iron Horse in 1927.
