Box cars on Super-Cushion underframes that make for damage-free shipment of freight with minimum blocking . . . ease of loading and unloading unwieldy freight through the raised sides of all-door cars . . . the inherent ability of railroads to carry big loads long distances at low cost . . . scheduled dependability of rail shipment, consequent savings in handling, warehousing and inventory costs and time . . . all of this means more freight moving on Southern Railway.

Freight like the 60 to 65 carloads of textile machinery and parts made by the Draper Corporation of Hopedale, Mass., that Southern is moving to the Brown Division of Cannon Mills at Concord, N. C.

The picture bottom right shows how the all-door feature of the equipment which Southern developed in order to get business enables workers at the Draper plant to quickly and easily maneuver the machinery into place; Picture right shows that virtually no blocking was used.

A "welcoming committee" ( below) was on hand to greet the first cars of machinery and parts arriving at Cannon Mills. The machinery was in perfect condition, thanks to the smooth ride freight gets in cars equipped with the Southern-developed Super" Cushion underframe.

Arriving on schedule and damage-free, the machinery could be moved from the box cars to the plant and put into operation immediately after preliminary testing.

That's the sort of good service that encourages shippers to keep moving their freight via Southern.
