What appears to be a loaded box car with one side removed is actually a unique, special - duty car designed and built by Southern's operating department.

The car, whose entire sides open to permit easy loading and easy unloading of lumber up to 40 feet in length, is shown with its lading secured, ready to be closed up and locked for movement.

Resourceful engineering on the Southern created the car. Good service will keep it filled. A combination of the two represents a determined bid by our railway for a larger share of the South's lumber traffic. (See complete story.)
