Volvo Begins Chesapeake Distribution





Volvo of America Corporation recently started national distribution of imported cars from their Chesapeake, Va., plant, using Southern bi - level and tri - level cars. Thirty automobiles were shipped to Atlanta and Jacksonville, Fla. The $150 - million automobile assembly plant, scheduled to begin operations next spring, is the distribution center for all imported cars assigned to American dealers east of the Rocky Mountains.

These cars are imported through Portsmouth Terminals, Inc., and stored temporarily at the plant site. Southern representatives on hand to see off the first shipments were Challen Caskie, industrial development manager, Richmond; Jim Sims, division superintendent, Greensboro, N. C.; and Hugh Palmer, sales representative, Chesapeake.
