ON THE COVER
Ricardo Kostner, photo assistant, made this exciting picture of a Southern diesel.
He started with a black and
white negative, from which he made 10 negatives of varying
densities on high-contrast film. Using color filters, he then printed
the negatives on color paper. Ricardo has a degree in graphic
design from the University of Chile. He came to this country in
1972, and worked on the Norfolk Southern before joining Southern's photo section in
Washington, DC, in 1974.
