Southern Scenes

The feature was taken by Southern Railway photographer Howard Olmsted. Howard used a 300mm telephoto lens on a 35mm Nikon camera to capture the Southern Crescent as it passed the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D. C. It's interesting to note that the red decal on the Crescent locomotive is a Bicentennial salute to Mr. Jefferson. The tiny white marks that surround the head of the Jefferson statue are tombstones at Arlington National Cemetery.

Chairman W. Graham Clay tor, Jr., inspects the first Bicentennial decal to go on an engine of the Southern Crescent.
