ON THE COVER

ON THE COVER: After arriving at the Port of Jacksonville, this 150-ton pulp dryer was transported by Southern to Procter & Gamble's paper products plant in Chapco, Ga. Manufactured in England, the dryer measures 21 feet long and 18 feet wide. Because of the dryer's dimensions, Southern had to clear the track of all southbound traffic. The movement of the dryer, Southern's largest load out of Jacksonville, was made possible because of several right-of-way improvements: the old St. Mary's River Bridge near St. George, Ga., was replaced, signals were moved and overhead wires raised.
