ON THE COVER
A northbound Southern Railway freight train crossing the railway's bridge near Burnside, Kentucky. The bridge was opened to traffic on August 3, 1950, as a replacement for an earlier bridge the site of which is now covered by the waters of Cumberland Lake, a huge reservoir behind Wolf Creek Dam, which is located about 35 airline miles downstream from the bridge location.
