From L. C. McCauley, flagman on "The Tennessean," came this once in a lifetime shot. It was taken on November 11, 1911, of Southern engine No.1111 on the Harrisonburg Branch. The man in the cab was Frank Tolliver, owner of a jewelry store in Harrisonburg. On the ground were (from left): Ben Shacklett, conductor; Tom Rowen, engineer; John Marston, watch inspector; Volley Vaughn, conductor; and Earl Moore, fireman. The boy on the pilot was George Shacklett, son of the conductor.

"The day the eagle screams" (better known as payday) was obviously a festive occasion back in 1890
when this picture was taken on the Mobile division between Gurnee Junction and Bessemer, Ala. Southern
conductor C. C. Little, of Selma, Ala., sent the picture with the explanation that it was
made when the workmen gathered to receive their pay one day during the building of the line
linking Blocton, Bessemer and Birmingham.
